Cameo scenes set within boxes and frames Representing space within a model building , box or frame and creating a sense of atmosphere using plastic , card, paper, fabrics and paint, found objects and different kinds of light all linked together by the ubiquitous papier mâché is the fascination of miniatures , focusing the attention on that which is small. Almost all the boxes and frames are in 1/24 scale, there is something 'right' about the size for model making. There seem so many visual equivalents for the world around us , such as the way a certain sort of paper or tissue will crease to look like fabric or paper pulp can dry to look like stone. It is enchanting to open a box and find a whole unexpected world inside, rather like a book. Many of the boxes in the gallery have lighting in them and many use ambient light such as the one above so that if placed in a windowsill they will change with the moving daylight as the light comes through the painted background. to see more of my cameos please click here
